ISLAMABAD: Pakistan observes the 72nd death anniversary of Liaquat Ali Khan Shaheed, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan.

On the same day in 1951, he died in a stunning occurrence during a public gathering in Rawalpindi. The mystery surrounding this sad incident, regarded as one of the worst in the country’s history, has persisted despite the passing of more than seven decades.

Company Bagh in Rawalpindi, later renamed Liaquat Bagh in memory of the late Prime Minister, is where the incident occurred.

Khan Liaqat Ali Khan had just begun to address the crowd when a person seated in front of the dais fired two or three handgun shots at him, according to the FIR filed at Police Station D Division Rawalpindi. The bullets caused the Prime Minister to fall to the stage, and Syed Akbar, the assassin, was slain.
