Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday announced his resignation from the Karnal assembly seat in the House, vacating it for the new CM, Nayab Singh Saini.

Addressing the Assembly session, Khattar said Saini will now take care of Karnal constituency.

“Although I’m the MLA from Karnal, while Nayab Saini has not yet contested the assembly elections… he also has to contest polls. So, I announce in this House today that I resign from Karnal Vidhan Sabha seat… Now, Nayab Saini shall take care of Karnal constituency…” he said.

Talking about responsibilities, Khattar said, “Whatever responsibility the party will give me, I will fulfill it to the best of my abilities.”

Khattar’s announcement came shortly after the Nayab Saini government won the trust vote in the Assembly.

Festive offer

Khattar further said he did not have much experience as a chief minister. “I went to the Prime Minister and asked him if I could consult some fellow CMs. He (PM Modi) told me two things — First, he told me that you have became CM by getting elected as an MLA; I became CM without that for the first time. Secondly, he told me that I’ll learn when I go among the people and of course, the opposition will teach me all the experiences.. that’s how I learnt.”

“It’s the same how Nayab Saini has become the CM now,” Khattar added.
