Lamborghini Reventon: Collector Gold or Overpriced Murciélago LP640?

By -

The Lamborghini Reventon cost over $1.5 million new and they only made 20 in total. But is this crazy, futuristic raging bull really that special?

In 2007, Lamborghini blew away the media with the new Reventon at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It was the most expensive Lamborghini ever at $1.5 million dollars ($2 million today). The design inspiration is a stealth fighter jet, which explains the angular styling and matte grey paint. The carbon fiber body took the Murciélago design to the next level. Offering sharp angles all over the bodywork. Up front the headlight have LED and HID elements, with the first use of parent company Audi’s LED running lights. Inside the stealth fighter theme continues, with LCD gauge cluster setup like a jet aircraft. The instruments feature a G meter and use a graphic layout more like a plane, than a traditional car. Lamborghini only made 20 Reventon coupes for the entire world, so it is exclusive, but does that make it worth the price tag?

In this video, Reventon owner Salomondrin takes us on a tour of his car and shows us what makes it unique. As an owner he has a bit of a bias, so take the video with that in mind. On paper the Reventon makes no sense as far as value. The performance is on par with the Lamborghini Murciélago LP640, which you can buy with a 6-speed manual versus the Reventon which is E-gear (automatic) only. You can buy a 6-speed Murciélago LP640 on the market for $300,000.  The rarity of the Reventon has value and the unique design is very cool, but is it $1,700,000 more car than the LP640 in a 6-speed manual?

Check out the video to see all the cool components and design features the Reventon has to offer. We feel that if you want exclusivity and a unique Lamborghini than the Reventon could be the way to stand apart. Although, as a drivers car you will not feel the special experience over a LP640 and for that reason we would buy the manual Murciélago LP640. If money was no object, why wouldn’t you have one in you collection. Let us know what you think in the comments.
