If you haven't heard, Marvel has been on a bit of a tear lately. Without spoiling too much, Disney+'s WandaVision may have just exploded everything we knew about what's possible in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In short: WandaVision likely just introduced the existence of the multiverse, meaning that any character from any Marvel comic book film could hypothetically show up in an MCU show or movie.

Naturally, this has fans fanning the flames of one pretty epic rumor: That Spider-Man 3, which is currently in production, will see Tom Holland's Spidey link up with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's versions of the hero from past non-MCU films. This isn't the craziest idea, by the way, considering that J. Jonah Jameson (from Maguire's superhero trilogy) showed up at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Plus, the report that Jamie Foxx's Electro, who appeared in Garfield's second outing as the hero, will be in Spider-Man 3. All of that said, when writer Allie Jones interviewed Holland for Esquire's cover story on the Cherry actor, she asked him straight-up if the rumors are real. He didn't mince words in his answer.

“No, no, they will not be appearing in this film,” Holland said. “Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”

Don't let Holland's answer bring you down too much. You want to know why? It'd be very much like Marvel to hide that answer from him. The actor has a bit of a rep for spoiling Marvel plot points (part of the ending to Avengers: Endgame included), as you can see in this handy YouTube compilation of all his slips. He even admitted to Jones that Marvel hides script pages from him and intentionally misdirects him in the pages they do give him, quipping, “I honestly have no idea what this film is about and I’m eight weeks into shooting it.” So don't worry. Holland thought Endgame's closing funeral was a wedding for most of filming.

“In [Endgame], Robert Downey Jr.’s funeral scene, for the longest time I was under the impression that it was a wedding. I’m 100 percent sure that they’re still tricking me.”
