Racing superstar Giga Kick and pony Frankie are almost inseparable

Giga Kick is the $8.7m man who won't go anywhere without his $1000 best mate.

Just as Batman needed Robin and Tonto was the Lone Ranger's companion, Frankie the pint-sized pony is the sidekick and trusted confidante of The Everest and Group 1 star Giga Kick.

They go together like bread and butter, shoes and socks and fish and chips.

Little Frankie was originally purchased about a decade ago by Giga Kick's owner Jonathan Munz for his sons Albert and Alex.

GIGA KICK'S INCREDIBLE JOURNEY THAT LED HIM TO CLAYTON DOUGLAS

Frankie has now become Australia's most important pony, travelling everywhere with Giga Kick including to the Sunshine State where he will remain with him as Giga Kick spells following Saturday's Group 1 Doomben 10,000 where he is the hot favourite.

"Frankie has got a good job, probably the best job in the world," Giga Kick's Victorian trainer Clayton Douglas said.

"He gets to eat, sleep and stand alongside Giga Kick.

"He is living the high life.

"It's quite funny, they are probably not lost without each other.

"But just for my peace of mind I like having Frankie with Giga Kick.

"Because Giga Kick is such a valuable horse, most of the time he is on the truck on his own, so to have a nice companion with him who is quiet rather than having another horse that could be a bit fiery is a great thing.

"Frankie had a break with him in Sydney and he will have a break with him in Queensland as well."

Giga Kick and Frankie may now be a match made in heaven but their relationship hasn't come without growing pains.

Cheeky Frankie has been known to lift lids on buckets in the stables to pinch some extra food while an early trip to the races with Giga Kick didn't end well.

Frankie was blamed as being a bad luck omen when he went to the races last August for Giga Kick's Vain Stakes assault at Caulfield, only for the float to get a flat tyre on the way to the track.

But it's been smooth sailing ever since and Frankie is a key part of the team which has seen Giga Kick net $8.7m in prizemoney and be the raging favourite for Saturday's Doomben 10,000.

Young trainer Douglas is convinced Giga Kick will add another Group 1 win to his belt at Doomben.

The mere presence of Giga Kick - the three-year-old sprinter who is one of the country's most exciting horses in years - will get more fans through the gates.

"It's good to be able to bring him up here for Queensland racing to be honest," Douglas said.

"He would be the best credentialed horse who has come up to Queensland for a while.

"He should be able to get a few more people through the gates.

"For a young trainer, it has been hard to comprehend at times how exciting and how big Giga Kick's journey has been.

"For me, even just speaking to the media has taken some time to get used to.

"Sometimes at track work with Giga Kick there are media and people everywhere and I look around and think 'what is all this about?'

Douglas, a former champion jumps jockey, is full steam ahead with his training business which is headlined by Giga Kick.

He realises he may never get a horse as good again.

Sometimes Douglas misses riding, such as during the famous Warrnambool carnival which was run recently, but he only has to take a look around his stable and spy Giga Kick to know he made the right call.

"A little bit of me would love one day to have another ride over the jumps, but it just wouldn't work," Douglas said.

"I had to pick one or the other and I chose to be a trainer.

"I don't think I will ever be back (riding), my training operation has got big and with Giga Kick, where he is at, things are going very well at the moment."
