The US President, George W Bush, has hailed the arrest of Libyan al-Qaeda suspect, Abu Faraj al-Libbi, in Pakistan as a critical victory in the war on terror.

US officials say Abu Faraj al-Libbi is the third most senior member of the al-Qaeda network.

He is wanted in connection with two attempts on the life of Pakistan's President, Pervez Musharraf, in which 17 people were killed.

Libbi was arrested with four other al-Qaeda suspects during a raid in the north west Frontier Province.
