India is one of the fastest-growing gaming opportunity markets in the world for Intel, a senior official from the company told Times Now Tech on the sidelines of Lenovo's Innovate event. According to Jack Huang, Director of Sales Enabling-Asia at Intel, India is becoming a big player in gaming. He also highlighted that Intel is making laptops smarter with artificial intelligence (AI). The company is also putting a lot of money into it to make sure laptops work great.
"We think that India is one of the fastest-growing gaming opportunity markets in the world for us, and it's a high priority," he said.
When asked about Intel's progress in the past few years in AI, Huang said that Intel focuses on various aspects of silicon hardware, like the Core Ultra and new NPU (Neural Processing Unit) technology. The company is also working on improving how different components, like the GPU, CPU, and NPU, working together for better performance. Additionally, Intel invests heavily in back-end work and AI acceleration programs to enhance their products, collaborating with numerous developers to optimize AI usage and bring over 300 features.
Talking about the importance of the Indian PC market for Intel, Huang revealed that the PC market in India has been growing steadily over the last couple of years and "we still see fantastic opportunities".
"Given the population and demographics, one highlight that I always like to mention is that when I moved to Asia and joined Intel, many of the most popular price points for Lenovo notebooks in India were around $300 or 20,000 rupees. Now, that figure has more than doubled. The purchasing power in India is enormous, which is fantastic. India has become the world's largest market for first-time PC buyers, making it a top priority for the PC business," Huang added.
Huang also mentioned that gaming laptops are very popular in India. Just like notebooks 10-15 years ago, entry-level gaming laptops are common, starting at lower prices, and consumers gradually upgrade over time. He believes that the Indian audience is becoming more aware of the differences between gaming laptops and general laptops when it comes to gaming.
